Due to super high water absorption and water retention capacity, superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can be applied to effectively ameliorate utilization of water in agriculture, such as retaining moisture in the soil and reducing the irrigation water consumption. A great number of hydrophilic groups on the chain of SAPs help to absorb water hundreds to thousands of times their own masses. Moreover, three-dimensional networks either by chemical or physical crosslinks guarantee SAPs strong water-retention capacity even under certain pressures. These compounds are known by the common name of soil amendments with a relatively high variety such as zeolite (Shokouhi, Parsinejad, & Noory (2015)), chemical amendments (Wang, Zhao, Zeng, Hu, & Yu, 2015), a variety of chemical, biological and composite polymers Mahmoud Awad, Blagodatskaya, Ok, & Kuzyakov (2012), and polyvinyl acetate (Movahedan, Abbasi, & Keramati, 2011),
Besides improving water use efficiency of soil, SAPs are also used for controlled release of fertilizers. It is reported that about 40–70% of nitrogen (N) and about 80–90% of phosphorus (P) in conventional fertilizers cannot be absorbed by crops due to their high solubility in water and high diffusivity to the surrounding environment. Loading fertilizers to SAPs not only improves fertilizers use efficiency but also avoids unnecessary environmental pollution. Thus, SAPs are significant to the development of agriculture.


we need someone to research if this SAP or other water observers absorving also bad elements from water such as 'hard metals' etc. we know absorvers also absorves them and if we apply them to our soil from 1 meter down we dont know what can those hard metals and other bad elements to our roots. so we need a research about if they absorves bad elements and then we need to find a way to filter our water. clean water to our plants but it should be affordable
